VMSafe(r)

February 28th, 2008 | Category: Security

In response to a vulnerability that virtualization softwares by VMware exhibited, the company has released its most recent security application: VMSafe.

VMware logo

VMSafe prevents a potential attacker from running malicious code in the supervised OS and affect the underlying host. According to Raghu Raghuram, vice-president of data center products and solutions “The industry has come out in full force to support VMWare VMSafe technology with plans for a whole new class of security products that offer customers new advantages to running applications in virtual machines…”

Even though the credibility of the security offered by virtual machines has been shaken, there are still over twenty companies that support VMware’s technology.

Still better be careful…

Kubuntu!

February 28th, 2008 | Category: OS

One of the h4rdwired’s favorite Linux distro’s (Kubuntu) has been gifted with a Hardy Heron Alpha (v 8.04).

Kubuntu

According to the main developer, Jonathan Riddell : “Kubuntu KDE4 Hardy Alpha is here. There will be two editions of Kubuntu with the 8.04 release, a commercially supported KDE 3 edition and a community supported KDE 4 edition. We recommend the KDE 4 edition to those who want to try this exciting new desktop version and can put up with some missing features. It comes with KDE 4.0.1 and some applications from KDE 3 to fill in any gaps. As with any first alpha there remains much polishing to be done (you will need to run KNetworkManager manually for example), but it gives a good overview of what will be released with as 8.04 in April.

Final Veredict: Nice…

P.S. If you are tied to that cadaverous thingy they call Vista but want to taste the flavour of freedom the try this LINK HERE

Blackcomb / Vienna Apocalypse

February 28th, 2008 | Category: OS

Windows 95…. Windows 98… 2000…Millenium…Xp and now Vista.

Honestly we do not know why God makes us suffer so much in so little time. Crashes, viruses, intruders, Trojan horses, Worms, Blue Screens Of Death…. In other words, it is surprising to see that Microsoft hasn’t still renamed itself to Micros**t.

Now, the question that vaguely haunts our minds is: Will we suffer even more with another decrepit OS? The answer, unfortunately, is yes: it’s not over yet…
When Windows collapse...
It appears that Windows 7, previously codenamed Vienna/Blackcomb, will be the successor of Vista (Windows 95 II). Let us prepare for the worst (Windows 95 III) and hope for the best (Microsoft’s bankrupt).

One word Microsoft: “Bloatware”

Mac OS X Lynx (or Cougar…)

February 28th, 2008 | Category: OS

Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger and now Leopard. It appears that Apple has a certain crush on felines. But has the big cat spree ended? Nay, Not really.

It seems that Apple, Inc has already registered and trademarked the names “Lynx” and “Cougar” in the categories “computers”, “computer software” and “Computer Operating System”.

Purrrrrfection...

Honestly, what for? Leopard is perfect already. It is a bit stupid to think that they will add “+300 new features” to the next version of Mac OS X (10.6 Cougar or Lynx), but as usual the Steve has his own mysterious ways…We, the h4rdwired crew, are longing for this new exciting version of Mac OS X because we can’t imagine what else can they do to their already perfect Operating System and we obviously want to find out.
